Privacy Policy

For the website getnoiseguard.com and the Chrome extension Noise Guard. Last updated:

๐Ÿ”’ Short version: Noise Guard sends nothing to us. There is no server that could.

This is the legally binding privacy policy. For a plain-language explanation, see Privacy at a glance.

2. This Website (getnoiseguard.com)

This website does not set analytics or marketing cookies and does not embed third-party tracking scripts (no Google Analytics, no Facebook pixel, nothing similar). The hosting provider processes technically necessary server log data on access (e.g. IP address, timestamp, page requested), as is standard for any web server. This data serves exclusively technical delivery and security purposes and is deleted automatically after a short time.

The language selection (language menu), if you deliberately change it, is stored locally in your browser (localStorage), not on a server.

3. Core Principle of the Extension: Local-First

Noise Guard processes all data exclusively locally in the browser. There is no Noise Guard server. The extension never sends content, settings, or usage data to us or to third parties at any point.

4. Chrome Web Store: Data Usage Disclosure

The Chrome Web Store requires every extension to explicitly disclose certain data categories. Here is the complete, honest answer for Noise Guard:

Data category Collected?
Personally identifiable information (name, address, email)No
Health informationNo
Financial informationNo
Authentication information (passwords)No
Personal communications (emails, chats)No
Location dataNo
Browsing historyNo
User activity (clicks, mouse movement, keystrokes)No
Website content (comment text, page elements)Yes, see section 6, exclusively local, never transmitted

Sale or transfer of data: Noise Guard does not sell user data, does not transfer user data to third parties, and does not use user data for purposes unrelated to the extension's core function. This is also technically impossible, since no data ever leaves the device.

5. What Is Stored Locally

All of the following data resides exclusively in chrome.storage.local on your device and can be fully removed at any time via "Settings โ†’ Privacy โ†’ Delete all data":

Data typePurpose
Settings (filter modes, levels, times)Functionality
Domain of visited pages (no full URL, max. 200 entries)Statistics dashboard, page retrospective
Custom filter terms, trusted/blocked peopleRules you entered
Progress badges & milestonesDisplay in the "Progress" section
Site preferences (settings per domain)"Always treat this site this way"
Rule health (timestamp of last match)Detecting ineffective custom rules

6. Comment & Context Analysis

To detect toxic or aggressive comments, Noise Guard reads the visible text of comments on the currently open page and analyzes it in the browser's memory. This text is not permanently stored, not logged, and not transmitted, it only exists for the moment of analysis. The same applies to the optional context analysis of selected text via the right-click menu.

None of these analyses use a cloud AI or external service. Everything runs with local, heuristic rules directly in the browser.

6a. AI Detection (AI Disclosure Labels)

Noise Guard can optionally detect whether a visited page carries its own AI disclosure label (for example, YouTube's self-disclosure for altered or synthetic content, the disclaimer shown on Google AI-generated search answers, or an AI label on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, or X). This works exclusively by looking for these labels already set by the platform itself and publicly visible, not by drawing its own conclusions from writing style or word choice. The check runs entirely locally in the browser, no page content is sent to a server. This feature is disabled by default and can be turned on in the extension's settings.

7. What Is NOT Processed

  • No browsing history
  • No full URLs or search terms
  • No third-party cookies
  • No IP address, no fingerprinting by the extension
  • No advertising or usage profile
  • No transmission to our servers or to third parties

8. Exception: Community Lists (only if enabled)

Noise Guard optionally offers the ability to query a URL you enter yourself for shared filter suggestions. Disabled by default. If enabled: clicking "Check now" fetches the entered URL via a simple GET request, no automatic background fetching, no local data is sent along. New entries only appear as suggestions and are only adopted after explicit confirmation.

This feature is the only place in the entire product that communicates with an external address not operated by us, on request.

9. Extension Permissions

PermissionPurpose
storageLocal storage of settings and rules
host_permissions (content of visited pages)Local detection of ads, comments, and page elements
declarativeNetRequestBlocking known ad/tracking domains, entirely local in the browser
contextMenusRight-click options (e.g. context analysis of selected text)
activeTabAccess to the active tab when clicking the icon

Every permission is used exclusively for the described function, not to read or transmit content to us.

10. Legal Basis (GDPR)

Local processing occurs to provide the functions you chose (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, performance of a contract at your request). Since no data leaves the device, no transfers to third parties arise that would require a separate legal basis.

11. Retention Period

Settings and custom rules remain stored until you change or delete them. Daily statistics reset automatically each day. Via "Settings โ†’ Privacy โ†’ Delete all data" you can remove everything completely at any time. Uninstalling the extension also deletes all stored data.

12. Your Rights Under the GDPR

Since all extension data resides exclusively locally on your device, you technically already have full access: access (export function in settings), rectification (changeable directly at any time), erasure (see section 11), restriction of processing (pause and exception features), and data portability (export as a file).

For questions about this website or your rights, you can contact us at any time via hello@getnoiseguard.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data protection supervisory authority.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

If this policy is adapted for new features or legal requirements, the date above changes. Significant changes are additionally noted in the extension's changelog.

14. Contact
